YouTube Interviews
I do a series of satirical interviews with authors called “Between Two Perns”. The format is similar to Zach Galifianakis’s interview series “Between Two Ferns”. The show is all in good fun, and I hope it can be a good way for people to discover new books they might enjoy reading through learning about authors and their books in a humorous way.

The first episode features Brandon Sanderson because when his team graciously invited me to participate in the Yumi and the Nightmare Painter book club, the participants all got 30 minutes to make content with Brandon. I had no ideas what to do and felt there weren’t any creative writing or worldbuilding questions I could ask him that he hasn’t heard a million times. Instead, I decided to ask him the dumbest/rudest/most passive aggressive questions I could think of. Brandon knew we were sitting down to do a satirical interview, but did not know the questions. Brandon was a great sport and was actually the one who thought of the pun that the show is named for. The punmaster himself strikes again.

Shoot me an email! I live in Knoxville, TN so if you’re ever headed this way we might be able to figure something out, time permitting. Otherwise, we’d probably need to try to have our schedules align at a convention or something. I don’t do episodes, even with bestselling authors, via Zoom or video call because it compromises the comedic quality of the interview in my opinion.

Well, it takes a long time to do the research necessary to write the script, read the books, travel, and edit the videos. I do it for fun, and the whole process is expensive both financially and timewise. I have a lot of other places where my passions lie from creative writing to spending time with friends and family to simple/fun hobbies like video games. For the first year or so I did the show, I really wanted to stick to a regular schedule. It wasn’t healthy for me and my mental health and productivity in other areas of my life suffered.

No idea! Probably when I stop having fun with it. For now, I just wish I had more time to spend working on the show.
